About

Lynette Yencho Self portrait can be seen at the Owatonna Arts Center

I am Lynette, who started freelancing in 1982 after my place of employment, Minneapolis Star newspaper folded and merged with the Tribune. When I worked there, my favorite thing to do was Illustrate human interest stories so it was natural to direct my talents to magazines and publishers. At that time I thought I was a seasoned illustrator!

Little did I know the journey I would go on. Upon mailing out mini-portfolios landed me work with collectible companies, photo studios, foundries, entrepreneurs, theatres, tourist companies, and even a few publishers. Collectible companies were my main clients and I enjoyed creating all their flowers and birds. I found myself living on the North Shore of Lake Superior, 10 miles north of Duluth, and built a studio with a garden. I called it GardenStudio.

Eventually, I moved back to southern Minnesota for several reasons. GardenStudio is now housed in Fiddlehead, a house built in 1880. My painting and drawing tables are upstairs and my husband’s photography is on the first floor. Semi-retired, I do take up commissions once in a while, but I really just like to do what pleases me. I love to paint animals and play with new techniques.
